Moisture is the biggest enemy of biomass fuel. Wet pellets swell and crumble; wet briquettes lose calorific value and burn poorly. A few simple practices keep your stock in good shape through the rains.
Keep it covered and off the ground
Store fuel under a roof, on pallets or a raised platform, so rainwater and ground moisture cannot reach it.
Leave space for air
Don’t stack bags against walls. A small gap lets air circulate and stops condensation building up.
First in, first out
Use older stock first so nothing sits in storage for months.
Plan deliveries around your consumption
During the monsoon, smaller and more frequent deliveries mean less stock at risk. A recurring supply schedule helps here.
Check before you burn
If fuel feels damp or pellets have turned to powder, set it aside and let it dry rather than feeding it straight into the boiler.
